The Cryptid Reddit Stories Pt. 1

So, we'll

[00:02:56] DeathTheEternal and was posted two years ago. I saw something that was odd in Texas once when I was younger and what I remember vividly was that the wildlife was noisy before I saw it. And that my uncle's dog, which we were walking together, was vividly perky before and after it went by, but both

[00:03:25] silent and then growling in a way I've never heard a dog growling. The thing itself was a looping creature, with what seemed a head far too large for the body, undiluting up and down on four legs. And it was about the size of a Labrador-Golden Retriever hybrid. The wildlife went silent until I passed by,

[00:03:50] and then it started to go back to its usual noise. And that thing frightened me more than virtually anything else I've seen before or since. Dog-like, but with a head that could have fit on a good-sized brown bear. The other time was when I saw something that was essentially the Teratorn, like Thunderbird, next to a few birds, that were much smaller than it was. It was huge black and had a

[00:04:20] Catholic priest's collar around the neck, and white feathers that were very vivid and led me to laugh out loud for a moment before it started descending. And turned out it wasn't a condor that got displaced somehow or really big eagle. It was immense. It was something else entirely. En route to seeing it there

[00:04:44] was an intact deer carcass by the side of the road, so it seemed to me that the gigantic bird was swooping down to get to its lunch. A bird that size of a small plane, like the looping dog with a bear head thing, felt more like a dream than reality to see, because it was just awe-inspiring in different ways. I still think it was funny though. That thing I saw resembled the kind of creature reported in some Thunderbird sightings,

[00:05:13] and the sheer immensity of it, without much of a neck, left me understanding why people would compare it to a machine if they saw it. It inclines me to think that other cryptid sightings may have been something of that, am I really seeing this or am I dreaming effect, amplifying how people turn them into something more spectacular than they are, as well as wanting to make a good story. A great one.

[00:05:44] Okay, this one was all over the place, but we have two stories. We have this dog-like creature, but the size of a bear that seemed to be looping. Now, I'm not entirely sure what the person meant by looping, but it sounds like maybe it was switching between timelines, which is something we've kind of talked about in the missing 411 cases, especially with the staircases found in the forest. But,

[00:06:13] this creature doesn't sound like anything we've ever talked about, or at least that I've ever heard. So, if you have any idea, let me know. But, Thunderbird is something that we know all too well. And this sighting sounds very familiar and very similar to what other people have described, specifically with the Catholic priest's collar around the neck. Because a lot of people have described there being white feathers around these

[00:06:42] big birds' necks. Now, it does seem like that could be a condor because that's literally what they look like. But in some cases when they're much larger than a condor and not where a condor naturally lives, you are inclined to think that maybe this is something else. Especially when he says it's the size of a small plane. I mean, that's not a condor. Maybe the biggest one. So, it's very interesting these two

[00:07:09] sightings. I'm not sure I could follow the timeline of events very well, and I hope you could. But this is a good way to start. I'm a little creeped out so far. Let's go to the next story. It's from the user big underscore dream underscore 9303. And it was also posted two years ago. This happened about a year ago

[00:07:33] to my friend and I in my hometown in Massachusetts. A couple dozen miles from the Bridgewater Triangle, I recently concluded that it was, more likely, a Pukwudgie encounter. So, my friend and I were chilling in the woods, probably smoking a J, and literally talking about magic and how the force, more or less, is a real and legitimate phenomenon. People are magical. And all of these magical concepts people consider,

[00:08:02] make believe, are, by and large, true and possible. Astral travel, ESP, the collective subconscious, all of it. As a matter of fact, in the same area of woods along a regularly frequented trail in my town, I've had a couple strange things happen before this event. As we're chilling there, it's about

[00:08:27] dusk. I see something peek from behind a tree, behind my friend, maybe about four feet off the ground. I saw a fairly large head. It peeked and then hid behind the tree. Not a large tree either, fairly small. I said nothing. Until I saw it peek again. Then I said, hold up, I swear I just saw something behind

[00:08:50] the tree. I walked over and looked around. Nothing. No sound of an animal. Nothing. Then, a tree about 40 feet away lit up with golden light. The whole tree just kinda glowing golden, as if lit up from below. All limbs visible. The entire trunk, every twig. The tree was glowing yellow. As I slowly walked

[00:09:18] toward the tree, my friend and I saw an orb lift off from the nearby field. It was already almost treetop height when we first saw it rising. Bluish white, like an electrical spark or welding arc. Small. Really hard to say how big, but maybe a few inches across. Probably smaller. It smoothly lifted up

[00:09:41] a bit higher. And kind of curved flight path. Flew away from us and deeper into the woods. My friend was astonished. Asking me what it was. Almost scared. But I was just beaming with happiness and excitement. It was literally magical. Now this is an interesting one, especially because it's touching upon two

[00:10:06] topics that we haven't covered, but we will in October, so stay tuned. Which is the Pukwudgie and Bridgewater Triangle. Now I don't want to go too far into either one of them, because we will be covering them, but they're fascinating. Especially the Bridgewater Triangle, because it's essentially the Bermuda Triangle, but put in Massachusetts and minus aircrafts and ships missing and add in, well,

[00:10:32] aliens are also the Bermuda Triangle. Add in Bigfoot and other weird creatures and boom, you got your triangle. But in this story, we talk about a lot of magical entities of the forest, especially with a tree growing, but then also an orb. So what I first come to think of is that there are a lot of beliefs that fairies or fays do live in these forests, and they control the trees, or they are the trees,

[00:11:02] they live in them. And so when you see nature moving on its own, that's usually what that is. So I don't know if you've ever had this sort of phenomenon when you're walking or you're by yourself or whatever, but you see a leaf moving, but there's no wind, nothing else is moving around it, but just this leaf. Well, some would say that those were fairies or fays. I think that might be

[00:11:27] what we're talking about here. But then it's also interesting with this sort of like bluish white light, because that could be, I guess, an orb of a spirit. It could also be a UFO of some sort. It could also be ball lightning, which is something that we haven't talked about, but is an actual scientific phenomenon. So there definitely is a couple things going on in this one.

[00:11:53] It doesn't scare me. It actually does get me excited because it does feel magical. It feels sort of included into this world that we don't even know. So I think the Reddit writer was correct that this was a fascinating tale and magical. But also, if I were there, I'd probably be absolutely terrified. So don't get me wrong there. Absolutely. [00:13:16] And this next one was posted two years ago by the user technical underscore capital 890. I live in a nice suburban neighborhood next to a school. And one day when I was walking back around five o'clock, I saw something that horrified me and it still scares me. This happened around a year ago

[00:13:39] when I was in seventh grade. So I was walking back from school on a forest trail, which is a very open trail that's not heavily wooded, but there was another trail that led into the woods that was pretty close. So one day I was walking on the school trail and I was waiting for my parents to pick me up at the end of the street. I was waiting, just sitting on an electrical box on my phone.

[00:14:05] I then started to get a subtle feeling of uneasiness, but I ignored it since I assumed it was because it was getting dark. I then get up off the electrical box and walk down the street. But the second I did, I saw every single bird in the trees, either predator or prey, just come racing out like they're pumped

[00:14:29] with adrenaline. The moment that happened, I looked to my left and I saw on the alternate trail above the bushes, a pale white head with extremely skinny shoulders like they hadn't eaten for months. I got nervous, so I made myself believe it was a human and called out, hey, along with who are you? But I got no response.

[00:14:56] I got no response. I got no response. I got no response. I got no response. I got no response. This thing was definitely not human. It was about seven feet tall and also it walked at a straight, constant speed without change, like it was gliding, but its head bobbled up and down about a foot for each step. Keep in mind that as this was happening in the forest, it was completely silent,

[00:15:24] not even bugs making sounds, but it was chirping minutes ago. I started to get very nervous and scared when I saw this, so I started to quick walk down the street and eventually running. But as I was quick walking, I suddenly heard dogs barking in houses nearby. After this, I started walking around

[00:15:48] and investigating footprints and things at the trail where I saw the creature, and there were some strange things I saw. The most common footprint I saw was one I've never seen before in my life or could find online. It was a footprint that was basically just three straight long claws in the ground. I don't know what it was and searched it up, and the closest thing I found was an armadillo. But they had four toes,

[00:16:18] and this had three. I also saw huge dog prints over half the size of my size eight men's shoes. There were also other things like huge footprints of a deer, and the three claw thingy, and alternating footprints in one line without others. If anyone has ever seen something like this, could you please tell me your

[00:16:43] story? Or if you have info, I would be glad to take in that info. Follow up. I never actually saw its eyes, but it was hella terrifying. I just saw the side of its head, and it was pale white, but it was walking at a constant speed without changing. With every step it took, its head went up and down about a foot. The reason why I mentioned the forest being dead silent is because whenever this happens, it means that there is a large

[00:17:12] creature slash predator nearby, and everyone who lives in the mountains or country knows that if the forest goes silent, then you need to get the hell out of there. I still have no explanation for what I saw. Okay, this one is another strange one. I must have picked strange ones because so far we've,

[00:17:38] I mean, I guess with Thunderbird we know what that one was, but so far it's been a bunch of creatures that I don't even know. Because at first when he mentioned the pale head and the shoulders, I'm thinking, you know, a rake, which is those creatures that seem to be popular on creepypasta, and especially TikTok as well, but they're the creatures that almost are like malnourished,

[00:18:02] and they crawl, and it's weird. It's creepy. Have we covered those? I don't remember. I feel like we have. Somebody in the comments or DM me or whatever to tell me if we have or not, but that's what I thought at first. And then we get to the footprints part, and it's a bunch of different animals. So then I'm leaning more towards a skinwalker, but I guess it doesn't really make sense that a skinwalker would be

[00:18:28] the sort of pale creature, you know, because most of the time they would probably have been in some sort of an animal form, even if they are transitioning. It's, you know, but I guess that's where I'm thinking. I don't know. I have no idea what else it could be. If somebody knows, please let me know, because that's terrifying. But hopefully this person made out of the woods alive, because

[00:18:55] I would not want to be in there. Let me just say. All right, this next one is a very recent story, and was posted by the user fuzzy underscore place underscore 9736, and this was 10 months ago. Apologies in advance, since English is not my first language. It happened in 2021. FYI, I live in India,

[00:19:21] in the eastern part of it. So back in my college days, me and my friends would always plan on going out every couple of weeks in remote forest areas, and would always pick and go for forest areas which are built around river dams by government. As I write this, I am legit getting chills thinking about the very moment, because I never, ever saw anything like it in my entire life. So whenever we

[00:19:50] plan on going out like this, our general plan is always to make food in that forest area, which again is a good picnic spot, since a lot of people visit there for family picnic and stuff. But as you must know, we as youngins get extra thrilled to do things on extreme levels. So my friends and I decided to pick

[00:20:14] up a spot far, far away from the usual picnic spot in that forest. So we cooked our food, ate it, and cleaned up the mess. And I was readying to head back out, since we ventured far away from the actual picnic spot. So we had to walk from opposite side something around 70 to 80 meters, to not being seen by the forest rangers and officials. While walking back, I stopped to take a pee. And while doing that,

[00:20:44] I shouted towards my friends and told them to carry on walking. Now, I picked up a spot close to a bush and two trees, and my source of flashlight was my mobile phone. So I did my deed, but while doing that, I saw the bushes were moving for a couple of seconds. While I passed peeing, which kind of startled me now,

[00:21:06] you have to understand that it was around 5.30, 6pm evening time. So my main source of light was my phone's flashlight. I got curious, thinking it might be a rat or something like that. So I threw a rock at the bush. And I heard a noise, which I never heard in my life. Even once, it was like a hiss sound,

[00:21:32] mix of snake hiss and cat hiss. Upon hearing that, I thought it might be a snake. So I shouted for my friends and called them back to check it out with me. Then I picked up a small stick and started to poke the bushes while the thing was hissing. Then I saw the bush felt lighter, as if something was sitting

[00:21:55] between it and just got down from it. And all the movements inside the bush, all this time, which was happening completely, stopped. As I walked around the bush, I saw a huge black spider, which in diameter would be around 1-2 feet in length. It had both its front legs on air, as it was on its warning pose

[00:22:21] like all spiders do. I never felt that much fear in my entire life. And within a second, it ran towards the other side of a dense bush, in such a speed which was frightening, to say the least. I straight up jolted towards my friends, and my friends asked me, and I told them the entire event, but they laughed and said I was making stuff up. Till this day, I haven't seen a spider that big.

[00:22:49] Okay, now that's crazy. And let me tell you, you can probably tell, I was like very confused for half of it, which, you know, totally fine, totally respectable, because I was just like, wait, what's happening? What is this creature? But then he gets to the spider part, and I'm like, okay, now I'm invested, because what do you mean you saw a giant spider? I mean, that's terrifying. That's arachnophobia right there. We haven't covered any giant spiders, to my knowledge at least.

[00:23:18] In our almost six years of doing this, but oh my gosh, guys, it's gonna be six years this month. That's crazy. Anyway, yeah, that's wild. A giant spider. Now, that's, again, not something uncommon, because we have movies like arachnophobia and stuff, but I'd be curious to see if there was a cryptid that was known as a big spider. It's definitely possible. I mean, I would not put it

[00:23:42] past that, but in this one, you know, especially in a place like India, there are way different types of animals and insects out there. No pun intended. So it's entirely possible that this is a species of spider that does grow that big, and this was just an enormous one, or something like that, but oh my gosh, can you imagine seeing a giant spider? Especially when you're peeing?

This one is a shorter story posted by the user Saffron24000 only three months ago. I saw a manticore-like creature in Simpson County,

[00:25:25] Mississippi, around fall of 2015. Me and my mom were driving home after school, and turned onto our old rural gravel road, and all of a sudden, a massive animal flew from the right side of the car to the left, maybe five feet in front of the car. It was larger than our car, furry with light brown undersides

[00:25:49] and a dark wash on top. It had six limbs. Two were massive feathery wings, resembling large eagle or owl wings. The front two limbs were cat-like, or some large mammal. It had paws. The back two limbs resembled eagle talons, and were golden yellow with black claws. Its head was large and boxy, unlike an

[00:26:14] animal I've ever seen, but maybe between that of a lion and a pit bull. It also had a long, scaly-looking tail that ended in a triangular tip, like how a stereotypical devil tail looked, but it was slate gray in color. I don't like talking about it because I'm usually a very logical person, but it happened less than five feet in front of the car, in broad daylight, on a relatively clear

[00:26:42] back road. Afterwards, I just sat, stunned, silent, for a minute, and my mom finally asked, what was that? And I said, you saw it too? And then we never talked about it again. My best guess is that it was an owl carrying a cat or other small mammal, and me and my mom just

[00:27:05] wrapped the features the exact same way or something. Whoa, a manticore? I think that's from Greek mythology, but you'll have to forgive me if I'm wrong there. But yeah, it is a creature that's said to have like a lion's head. It has the tail of a scorpion, I believe. There's eagle talons,

[00:27:29] but there's also paws, and there's feathers and wings, and it's a ferocious creature. But to see that in Mississippi is absolutely insane. I mean, can you imagine seeing that five feet in front of your car? Now, what I do like about this story is that they give the explanation at the end that maybe this was an owl carrying a cat or something, because, you know, that kind of could explain it. I guess I

[00:27:55] don't understand how an owl or a cat head could look like the mix between a lion and a pit bull, but, you know, maybe it had a younger pit bull or a smaller pit bull in its talons. But oh my gosh, that's crazy. I feel like we did a, I did because I found these, I guess. I feel like I did a great job of picking cryptids we've not talked about other than the Thunderbird, because oh my gosh, these are insane. And I wish I had more explanation for them, but I simply don't. So I hope you're just

[00:28:25] getting freaked out with me. Okay, this is going to be our last story, because I know I told you guys at the beginning that we were gonna, you know, do this. But as I'm recording this, I'm thinking maybe we do a two-parter. So this one right here is going to be our last story for this episode, and then you'll just have to come back, because then you'll get to see the rest of the stories.

[00:28:52] So, let's dive in. The next story we are reading is from the user Nathan Jackson 1996, and this was from three months ago. Not me, but my father has had two brushes with British big cat phenomena. My dad once worked in an office in Runcorn with a man who was, to put it bluntly,

[00:29:19] a massive hypochondriac. To hear him tell it, he had run the whole gamut of dreaded ailments, and a minor accident was a brush with death, a fact that often made him the subject of teasing from his co-workers. Here starts the story. One day, Captain Sick commented that he had been finding

[00:29:44] unusual animal scat in his rather large garden, which was heavily wooded and backing onto Ellsmeyer Lake. His colleagues, knowing that he drove past Chester Zoo every day on his way to work and sensing an opportunity for Jeppery, suggested that Captain Sick scoop up said feces in a Tupperware box and seek advice from the people at the zoo, anticipating that the experts would give him a flabbergasted look

[00:30:12] and ask him in a baffled tone exactly why he was bringing in common cat or fox poo. However, the following day, Captain Sick was late to work. Before he arrived at lunchtime, chalk-faced with quite the tail. On his way to work, he did indeed take the scat to Chester Zoo, where on first examination, he was quickly sent to the carnivore team, where a keeper examined

[00:30:42] the scat, listened to his story intently, and then asked whether he had pets or children in his garden. When a bemused Captain Sick said he had two children and some pet rabbits and inquired as to why this was important, the keeper immediately and emphatically informed him to ring home immediately, tell his children not to go in the garden, and get the rabbits inside as soon as he possibly could.

[00:31:10] The keeper then picked up the phone and placed a call to DEFRA. You see, it transpired that Captain Sick had found leopard scat in his garden. In the following days, DEFRA placed large baited traps on his land and mentioned that there had been several attacks on sheep in the area. They theorized that

[00:31:35] the leopard had been attracted by the rabbits. Fortunately, there was no loss of any life. After several weeks, no sign of the leopard was found. The man in the white overalls with the clipboard explained that male leopards are transient and will pass through an area, and that is quite common for this to happen. And Captain Sick had the last laugh. Roughly five years earlier,

[00:32:02] my father and his best friend had set out in a cold January with the intent of ice climbing on Viking Buttress, which is on the eastern side of the Lake District. Having parked their vehicle, they intended to approach the range from the south via the Grisdale Valley and scramble up Eagle Crag, part of

[00:32:25] high-rise fell. As they summited Eagle Crag, dawn broke over the snowy top. They came upon a grisly sight. In my father's own words, it looked like a sheep had stepped on a landmine. Blood was spattered outwards in a circular splatter pattern of at least six feet, and strewn on it was large quantities of wool,

[00:32:52] four limbs from the knee downwards, and the sheep's skull, with approximately 20 to 30 centimeters of exposed spinal cord. A large, bloody drag mark heading north across the snow disappeared over the rock bend. Now, my father grew up in farming, so he knows what a dog attacks on a sheep look like,

[00:33:15] and this was not a dog attack. A dog would have left a mutilated carcass, and the lack of a gut pile and the distance from any road led him to discount that it was a poacher. A chill went down the two men's spines, and they quickly removed the climbing axes from their pack, wondering if they might be next. Fortunately, they moved off and went unmutilated. On the way home, in the car,

[00:33:44] they discussed what they had seen, and concluded that no one would believe it. Whoa. Okay. Crazy. Now, we've talked about big cats in England before. It's a very good episode. If you haven't listened to it, you should go listen, because this is one of those things that's technically a cryptid, but is almost like 99.9% not a cryptid, because there is plenty of enough evidence

[00:34:14] to prove that there are big cats in England roaming these countrysides where they are not native to. And this has to do with the fact that, you know, in Paris, in Europe, in England, sort of animal protection laws weren't as strict as they were in America, and so people were allowed to have exotic pets for much longer. And so the theory is that basically these people were

[00:34:39] just letting their animals go into the forest instead of taking them to zoos and stuff like that. And so they started breeding, they started changing how they could live in these environments, and so now there's a select number of these things running around. And a lot of it are leopards, some are mountain lions, which is a real mountain lion they did find in Europe. So this doesn't feel like a cryptid story per se, and more like an animal story, but you know,

[00:35:08] I got goosebumps when the zookeeper is like, yeah, call everybody to tell them to not go in the garden. Because that's crazy, can you imagine? You're like, hey guys, don't go in the garden because I think there's a leopard outside. Oh, yeah, of course, I'll head inside. But that's crazy. And I mean, especially with a mutilated attack like that on a mountain, seems like exactly what a leopard would

[00:35:32] do, or another big cat in that way. So that is terrifying. And I think that's a good one to end on.
